re-occurring side stitch when NOT running
« on: February 09, 2009, 09:51:38 AM »
Hello,

I am a somewhat novice runner (only seriously running for about 1.5 years now) and I'm nearing the end of a half marathon training program. I've read the information that has been posted on side stitches and, try as I might, I managed to get one on my last long run (8.5 miles). The stitch appeared about mile 4 and I was able to stave it off for the remainder of the run, but now (it's been two days), I find that I will get one when simply walking my dog (the last two days). Is it possible to pull the ligament? Any suggestions? I'm also an asthmatic so I'm pretty aware of breathing deeply and calmly while running, but sometimes they sneak up on me and now this one just won't go away.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Patty,
I have this happen to me a couple of times. I am not sure what the cause is. I did take some time away from training. You may want to check with a doctor if you feel it is a problem.

I have a similar problem. I used to never cramp and run 4-10 miles and sometimes more. Recently though i started getting side stitches every time I ran and on the first mile too. I even get them while walking. Any info on this would be much appreciated.

Hi,
I would eat 3 to 4 hours before you run. Start with that and see what happens.

My oldest son’s last school play. Thanks for the chance to win a spot in the LOAD class. Sounds like fun.
